The Oregon Green Schools team would like to invite you to apply to join our Board of Directors in support of our mission to activate climate and sustainability leadership in students, schools, and communities. We provide an inclusive network and educational resources to students, teachers, and school faculty across the state. We believe that student stewardship and climate action are a top priority and we must act now. Oregon Green Schools (OGS) is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1997, that provides free assistance and support to schools across the state. We support schools in establishing and maintaining conservation and sustainability programs that shape the next generation of environmental leaders. We are operated by a volunteer board of directors with funding support from grants, partners, sponsors, and members.

Our Values:

  • Environmental Stewardship

  • Collective Accountability and Integrity

  • Collaborative Leadership

  • Optimistic Realism

  • Holistic Community Engagement

  • Ongoing Growth

We are uniquely positioned within the environmental education sector to nurture a thriving network of students, schools, and communities, building mutually beneficial relationships with educators, government agencies, and sustainability professionals.

Board Commitment

As a board-run organization, there is a reasonable responsibility that is inherent to being a board member. The volunteer support of board members is critical to the success of Oregon Green Schools, and board members are expected to be among the organization’s most energetic supporters. By accepting a role on the Board of Directors, you are committing to being actively involved in helping OGS achieve its goals.

You can expect to volunteer 5-10 hours per month to fulfill your responsibilities, including regular attendance at monthly board meetings - currently held virtually on the third Monday of each month from 5 PM - 7 PM. A board term lasts for two years, with the option to renew longer.

Because we work with youth, all board members must pass a background check.

We welcome board members ages 16 and older and can approve volunteer service hours.
