Jaylen Schmitt

SHE, HER, HERS

Jaylen Schmitt is a certified Master Recycler who works for Metro Regional Government as a Recycling Specialist. In this role she advises residents and businesses in the Portland region on waste and toxics reduction, natural gardening and of course, recycling. In addition to Metro, Jaylen has worked for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Materials Management and for Clackamas County’s Office of Sustainability. She also has been a long-time volunteer with the EcoSchools Network in Portland.

Jaylen became involved with Oregon Green Schools many years ago when she led a green team at her children’s elementary school and helped them become a certified green school.  She joined the board in 2018 and serves on the fundraising committee. Although her children are now in high school, she loves being involved with OGS because it is inspiring to see young people and teachers who are working to make positive changes in their schools and the world. Helping provide them with resources to bring their sustainability goals to fruition is extremely rewarding.

Jaylen enjoys her backyard garden and growing food, hanging out with family and friends, camping, biking and perfecting her yoga poses. She hopes to master crow pose one day soon.
