Peter Oviatt

Peter is a cultural anthropologist whose work revolves around a core belief: all humans care about our planet and are willing, in their own way, to work toward a sustainable future. To realize this future we must respect human diversity and create ways to work as one.

This belief has guided Peter through research on the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and the development of “green” biotechnologies. Working to bridge political and cultural divides, Peter has collaborated with biodynamic mushroom farmers and industrial-minded agronomists.

Peter moved to Portland with his family in early 2020, when he began work at Sunstone Montessori School. He now coordinates a student-led Green Team and assists in an upper elementary classroom. Peter holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology and Science & Technology Studies from MIT and a MA in Politics from the New School for Social Research.
